Stephen Curry elevating to controversial debates

Golden State Warriors’ superstar Stephen Curry continues to rewrite his legacy within NBA history, making for controversial conversations as he climbs the list of all-time greats.

Curry’s stature grew markedly last season, accomplishing the elusive Finals MVP that most had used against him in any kind of individual debate. The two-time MVP was the architect behind Golden State’s fourth NBA championship in eight seasons, in doing so solidifying himself as a top two point-guard of all-time.

Seemingly at the peak of his powers nearing 35 years of age, Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Curry is creating quite the debate on his place in NBA history.

Last week, after Curry led the Warriors to another victory with 40 points against the Cleveland Cavaliers, The Volume’s Jason Timpf stated on twitter that there’s only four perimeter players better than Curry in NBA history — Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant and Magic Johnson.

The claim drew a mixed response from Twitter uses, many of which claimed Boston Celtics legend Larry Bird should also be in the discussion. However, a number also stated Curry was ahead of Johnson, and that he too is ahead of Bryant.

Is this the first time Curry has a legitimate argument against the Lakers duo? Obviously it’s debatable, but at the very least he’s joined an illustrious stratosphere of the game’s greatest ever players.

When you start discussing the top ten, even top 15 players of all-time, we’re really getting down to personal fan preference — perhaps outside the likes of Jordan and James. Analysis is so in-depth that you can grab a particular statistic and formulate it as the basis of an argument, even if it seems nonsensical to most.

Johnson and Bryant each have five championships, a number Curry will aim to equal and even surpass as his career enters its twilight. Johnson also has three MVP’s which, on the basis of 14 games this season, could be matched by Curry. Whatever the final consensus (if there is one), the fact people are having these debates is true testament to his continued dominance over an astounding career.
