With all of their units on the scoring board, Serbia overwhelmed China in a wire-to-wire display, 105-63, to begin their FIBA Championship activities in Group C within Quezon City’s Smart Araneta Coliseum this Saturday, Aug. 26.
Both Vanja Marinkovic and team captain Bogdan Bogdanovic led the Serbian attack with 14 points apiece, as Dusan Ristic also submitted his efficient 14 markers in a perfect 4-of-4 shooting from downtown.
For China, Zhao Rui stood bold amid the defeated effort with 17 markers, while big man Zhou Qi added a perfect 12 points.
Kyle Anderson, repping his Chinese name “Li Kaier” on his World Cup debut, went scoreless in nine shot attempts in a team-high 25 minutes of play.
Facing their former mentor Sasha Dordevic, the Serbians didn’t show mercy as early as the first-period buzzer. From there, the helpless Chinese squad was completely nowhere to be found as Serbia posted a current tournament-high 42-point margin.
Serbia is slated to face Puerto Rico up next on Monday. Prior to that, China aims to recover from a humiliating opener as they clash with South Sudan.
