In 2018, the Golden State Warriors faced their toughest opponents since adding Kevin Durant to their roster. Houston Rockets saw the Warriors rise, and they tried their best to make a roster that would be a ‘Warriors Killer’. They paired up James Harden with Chris Paul and surrounded them with a bunch of 3 and D guys, and sharpshooters.
In the first year of the partnership, CP3 and Harden took the Rockets to the Western Conference Finals. There, they met the team they had prepared to face since the beginning of the season, the 2017 champions, Golden State Warriors.
It was a grueling series, with each team landing haymakers. The Warriors won the first game on the road, and then the Rockets leveled the series. The Dubs took the lead at home. The Rockets evened it once again. Rockets took Game 5 at home, taking a 3-2 lead, when Chris Paul suffered a hamstring injury.
Chris Paul talked about how his injury during the 2018 WCFs affected him
After Chris Paul got injured, the Rockets had to head to Oracle Arena for Game 6. The Rockets were handed a shameful 116-85 loss, courtesy of Game 6 Klay.
When Chris Paul joined Kevin Hart on Cold as Balls, they discussed Games 6 and 7 in 2018. The Rockets were just one win away from going all the way, and CP3 making his first Finals. However, he suffered a hamstring injury in Game 5 that sidelined him for the rest of the series.
Talking about it, CP shared how it made him nauseous before tip-off in Game 6. He hated that he was watching the game and could do nothing to contribute and help his team win.
The Rockets then went on to lose Game 7 at home, and the Warriors went on the sweep the Cavs in the finals and won back-to-back championships.
Will CP3 win a ring in his career?
CP3 is playing his 18th season in the league. He’s always had tough luck when it came to the playoffs. After struggling to win with the Clippers, he made it to the WCF once with the Rockets, and the Semi-Finals again with the same.
Since his move to the Suns, CP3 finally made a first Finals appearance, but ended up losing to Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks, despite taking a 2-0 lead. Last year, the Suns lost in the second round.
If CP3 wants to win a ring, it has to happen this season, or at max, by the next season. The chances of the same seem low at the moment, but the Suns would sure like to present their veteran leader with a ring.
