The 76ers announced today that they have decided to part ways with head coach Doc Rivers. Rivers, who was appointed as the 76ers’ 25th head coach on October 2, 2020, led the team for three seasons, amassing an impressive regular-season record of 154-82 (.653).

Daryl Morey, the President of Basketball Operations for the Sixers, expressed his gratitude for Rivers’ contributions to the franchise, acknowledging his remarkable coaching career and future Hall of Fame status.

Morey stated, “Doc is one of the most successful coaches in NBA history, a future Hall of Famer, and someone I respect immensely. We’re grateful for all he did in his three seasons here and thank him for the important impact he made on our franchise.”

While Rivers’ departure comes as a surprise, Morey emphasized that the decision was made after careful reflection on the team’s season. The organization believes that certain changes are necessary to enhance their pursuit of a championship.
